Michelle Wu Advances to the November General Election

Released on: September 14, 2021

Boston, MA— Michelle Wu declared victory Tuesday evening in the Preliminary Election of the Boston Mayor’s race, having brought together a citywide multigenerational, multicultural, multiracial coalition to fight for bold, urgent leadership for the city of Boston. The daughter of immigrants and a BPS mom, Wu ran on her track record of results, from passing paid parental leave to successfully taking on big corporations to preserve rental housing.

Her message of bold, urgent leadership to build a Boston for everyone, fighting for a fare-free T, a Boston Green New Deal, and affordable housing presented a clear choice between a commitment to “tackling Boston’s biggest challenges with bold solutions or nibbling around the edges.”

“Today, I am excited to move on to the next stage of this campaign and want to thank everyone who has been part of our movement from the bottom of my heart. Crisscrossing the city throughout the day, I was reminded that the challenges and dreams of all of us across our neighborhoods are intertwined.”

“Together, we have and will continue to take on the big challenges we were told would be impossible—from passing paid parental leave to standing up to big corporations to protect rental housing. But we have always believed that more is possible. And now is the time for all of us to lead.”

“I want to thank the historic field of candidates both for their campaigns and their long records of incredible work in our communities. I look forward to the next stage of this campaign and continuing our fight for the future of our city,” said Michelle Wu.
